Bandung Photography Triennale returns with its second edition, introducing the theme:
SYNTHETIC VISION
In an era where the boundaries between reality and fabrication are increasingly blurred by technology, images have evolved beyond representation, becoming complex visual constructs shaped by synthesis, artificial intelligence, and algorithms.
This shift not only alters visual aesthetics and epistemologies but also introduces biopolitical and necropolitical mechanisms that exert control over bodies and life through algorithmic visual surveillance. Images today serve as instruments of power -used to craft narratives, propagate ideologies, and disseminate disinformation, ultimately blurring the line between fact and fiction.
The Bandung Photography Triennale responds to this condition by presenting works that examine our evolving relationship with synthetic imagery and its impact on identity, politics, and perception in an increasingly automated visual culture.
