VIDEO | Electronic Fieldwork — First Observation (Reconstructed)

Visual Record 001

2026

This video forms part of Electronic Fieldwork – Travels in the New World Order, an ongoing artistic research project investigating how contemporary landscapes are constructed through digital observation.

The animation presents a slowly rotating artificial cloud suspended within an undefined atmosphere. The cloud is not a meteorological simulation but a reconstructed object derived from the project's conceptual framework. It refers to the first observation made during the research, when cloud cover prevented direct observation of the intended field site in Surnadal, Norway.

Rather than removing this obstruction, the project accepted it as the expedition's first recorded object. From that moment, the investigation shifted from documenting a landscape to examining the instruments through which landscapes are produced.

The cloud became both subject and metaphor—an interface between observation and uncertainty.
